What is SmartTransfer

The Yeti Tool SmartTransfer app allows you to quickly transfer job folders and files from your PC computer to your SmartBench, via the wifi network.

Yeti Tool SmartTransfer is a computer application that makes it super easy to send your job files directly to SmartBench. Follow this tutorial to find out how to install and use SmartTransfer.

Computer requirements

SmartTransfer currently only works on Windows PC (minimum Windows 7). 

It does not work on Mac or Linux. 

You will need to be an administrator on your computer to install SmartTransfer.

Wifi requirements

Your SmartBench will need to be connected to the same network as your computer.

Console version requirements

Your SmartBench Console will need to have software version v1.7.0 or above.

Your SmartBench Console will need to have software version v1.7.0 or above. 

In the console menu, use the arrow buttons to scroll through until you see the System Tools button. 

Press the System Tools button.

Press the “System Info” button.

The name of your SmartBench is at the top of the screen. 

Double tap on it to edit it. 

Delete the old name, and type in a new name. You can call your SmartBench whatever you like. 

Tap outside of the textbox or keyboard to save your new name, and finish renaming your SmartBench. 

Download the install file

Download SmartTransfer

The download will start in the background before you see it appear on your screen, so please be patient.

You will see the download progress usually in the bottom left or top right (depending on your internet browser) of your screen.

When the download is complete (no loading circle will show), go into your downloads folder. 

Right click on the zip folder called SmartTransfer.zip, select “Open with” and then choose File Explorer.

Once opened, select “Compressed Folder Tools”.

Select “Extract all” in the toolbar. 

Click “Extract”.

Wait while the files are extracted. 

Install

Double click on setup.exe.

At the start of the installation process, you may be prompted by Windows Defender to tell you that the program is unrecognised. 

Press “More info”.

Press the “Run Anyway” button that appears next to “Don’t Run”.

You may also be prompted to install .NET Desktop Runtime 5.0.X. This is a program framework that our app is built on. 

Press “Install”.

This will install the client. 

When the install has finished, SmartTransfer will open automatically.

Open the app

The app will automatically open immediately after installation.

To open the program next time you’d like to transfer your files, press the Windows key on your keyboard and begin searching for “SmartTransfer” until you find it in the list. 

Click on the icon to open it.

Scan for SmartBenches

When you open the application, it will immediately start scanning for SmartBenches. 

When the application has finished scanning, it will show you all the SmartBenches it has found.

Transfer the file

Click on the SmartBench that you want to transfer your job files to (Read the above section ‘Setting the name of your SmartBench’ to learn how to personalise the name for you SmartBench).

This will open a window that you can drag and drop your files into. 

You can drop entire folders or multiple selected files into the SmartTransfer app. Any folder structure will be maintained.

Please wait while the file is transferred to SmartBench.

If the transfer was successful, you will see a green tick. 

In the console menu, click on the “Pro” App.

Press the button with the folder icon in the top left of the screen.

You should now be able to see your transferred files appear in the filechooser on your console. 

If they don’t appear straight away, just press the refresh button on the bottom of the console screen.

The file chooser will only display files with a .nc and .gcode extension

Congratulations, you have successfully transferred your files wirelessly to your SmartBench!

Update prompts

When a new version of SmartTransfer becomes available, you will be prompted to update it. 

We recommend that you keep SmartTransfer up-to-date to get the latest features and bug fixes. 

Pressing “Yes” will close the prompt and open your browser to the update page.

Pressing “No” will simply dismiss this prompt until you next run SmartTransfer.

Download the install file

Click here to download the latest Yeti Tool SmartTransfer app, if you have not already.

FileZilla is able to organise files and folders further, but is slower to setup and use.

Unable to install SmartTransfer app

Please ask your IT administrator for assistance in this matter. We are unable to support your individual PC needs until SmartTransfer is running.

Unable to find SmartBenches

If your SmartBench does not show up on the initial scan, check:

  • SmartBench is on.
  • SmartBench console has software version v1.7.0 or above.
  • SmartBench is connected to wifi (see the IP address at the bottom left of the Console screen, see image below).
  • Your PC is connected to the same wifi network.
  • Finally press the “refresh” button in the bottom right corner of the SmartTransfer app.

Unable to transfer file to a connected SmartBench

If you receive a message that your file failed to transfer, check your network connection on both your computer and the SmartBench.

Nothing happens when I drag and drop my files

If you do not see the text change to “Transferring” when dropping a file into the transfer screen, please ensure you have not launched the program as an Administrator. 

Please close the program completely and then launch by pressing the Windows button on your keyboard, searching for “Yeti Tool SmartTransfer” and clicking “Open”.

Transfer is successful, but I can’t see my file on the Console

The filechooser will only display files with a .nc and .gcode extension

To start, press the Windows button and type “Programs”. 

Select “Add or remove programs”:

Click on the search bar under the second Apps & features heading.

Type in “Yeti Tool Smart Transfer” until it appears in the list:

Click on the Yeti Tool Smart Transfer app.
Press “Uninstall”, and then press “Uninstall” again.

A new window will appear. 

Select “Remove the application from this computer”.

Press “OK”.
